On Wednesday night we went to an outdoor screening of Sordid Lives, sponsored by The GLBT Center. Promoted as a “black comedy about white trash,” it’s a fun movie, though I think half the fun was watching it with a park full of rowdy queens. Great ensemble cast, including Leslie Jordan–perhaps best known as Karen Walker’s pint-sized nemesis, Beverley Leslie, on Will & Grace–who turns in a standout performance as a cross-dresser whose inspiration is Tammy Wynette.
Speaking of movies, many thanks go to John of Rainbow Villa for getting me Camp on DVD!

We rented that movie a while back, and enjoyed it. I didn’t know that was the guy from Will & Grace!
I’m a big fan of Camp. It’s not that great of a movie (the older playwright guy’s acting is HORRIBLE), but it’s pretty much a perfect slice of my life, so I enjoy it. Sordid Lives I saw at a friend’s house once and enjoyed it… probably because that’s a movie about a lot of people I know (small Mississippi towns are always interesting…).
Olivia Newton-John made my little heart stop in her role of the soft butch, bar singing lover of the late lamented Peggy.
The aunt Sissy [Beth Grant] was also in Donnie Darko, and was just as hilarious in that! Check it out!
