Earlier this week Sonal sent me a couple of links. One is Badmash, “the weekly South Asian comic strip.” Funny stuff. And they have a spoof of the Simpsons intro, called “The Singhsons” (Flash required). You have to watch it. It is hilarious and very well-made.
And the other link, switching gears completely, Sonal sent with the disclaimer “This is my new obsession. I think you are the only person who will appreciate it.” That may be true: the crown prince of Denmark is getting married. Tomorrow! What am I going to wear?! I love this kind of stuff. All that pomp and protocol. Yeah, I know it’s silly. (Of course my first question was, is he cute? He’s okay, though in some portraits he’s positively Napoleonic. He has charm for a prince, I guess. I don’t meet a wide range.) Yikes, I’ve spent an definitely inordinate amount of time perusing that site. “And now to our senior Danish royal affairs correspondent…”

Heh, and my first question to you, when you passed the news on to me, was precisely the same.
I never signed up for Badmash but suddenly started receiving their newsletters to an e-mail address that is listed on a website for something I work on. Hooray for interesting content. Boo for spamming.
You can watch a live webcast of the wedding starting 18:00 CET.
Here in the antipodes interest is running high as the “Australian-born” princess-to-be (she gave up her citizenship to meet the nationalist requirements for marrying into the line of succession) is from Tasmania. My spouse threatens to stay up past 2am to watch the proceedings, but I don’t think she’s serious.
But of course the very silliness of it all is just the point, isn’t it? Some good fun in a too serious world. And they are quite beautiful.
I am ALL OVER Royal weddings. 20/20 is doing a special on the wedding this Friday! There’s another Royal tying the knot this month but I don’t remember who it is!
Tasmania, [now Princess] Mary’s home state, is known as the ‘Apple Isle’ (they used to export shiploads of them). So an irreverent radio commentator this morning suggested that the nuptual symbol should be… (wait for it!) an apple danish.
