I’m planning to visit my parents at the end of April. I’ve been looking at fares online, which you know I love to do–I could spend hours playing travel agent–and the cheapest fare I found is on JetBlue, which runs two nonstop flights daily between Washington (Dulles) and Oakland. National and San Francisco are my preferred airports for the sake of convenience–I live minutes from National, and my parents live minutes from SFO–but I’m used to schlepping for cheaper fares. And it might be worth the supposedly better JetBlue experience. I’ve heard mostly good things about them and am kind of curious. Anyone have any JetBlue experiences to share?

I’ve flown JetBlue twice, both Salt Lake City to JFK; once was very comfortable, and once was pure hell.

That particular flight is a red-eye, like many Blue flights, and it all depends on where you can get a seat and who is near you. My good flight experience included an aisle seat in a relatively uncrowded plane with no screaming children, so I just slept or watched the pretty-decent TV programming.

The bad one was the direct opposite. It was me in the middle seat between two very, very large women who insisted on taking turns either drinking whiskey or snoring and snorting loudly all night long. Not to mention talking to each other behind, in front of, and OVER me while I tried to sleep, even though I’d offered to trade one of them.

I’d give it a try if I were you; just be sure to select your seat of choice.

The DirecTV onboard is fantastic. So much for pleasure reading on the plane. It does get a little annoying when the person next to you is watching something else and starts to laugh really loud. Minor issue.

A simple search of a few blog aggregator sites like Technorati or Feedster will give a great cross-section of customer thoughts. If you do decide to fly JetBlue, get to the airport and get yourself into row 11 or 12 (exit rows–more legroom) in the window or aisle seat. Seats are given out first come first serve at check-in.

Whatever you decide though, hope you have a good flight.
