What? Interior-design cutie Nate Berkus was on Monday’s Oprah, and I missed it?! I knew I shouldn’t have deleted the Oprah season pass off my TiVo. I guess I’ll catch the late-night rerun next week. So, no wonder my website’s been getting a surge of referrals from Google searches on his name (and whether he’s gay or not). Despite my wishful thinking, who knows. He’s very metrosexual.
Also, some more Queer Eye buzz: the Chron‘s Tim Goodman calls it “heartwarming” and “fun,” while Tom Shales at the Post senses a “patronizing mentality” at work. Honestly, I think it would be just as interesting without the whole gay/straight concept. But less marketable, perhaps? (As a queer, style-television enthusiast, I guess I’m already in the target demographic anyway.) Oh well, you gotta have a gimmick, right?
Goodman also pans Boy Meets Boy, which I have to agree with. I mean, why not have a gay dating show without the big, cruel twist? Wouldn’t that be ground-breaking?

I can’t believe I missed Nate too! When does this so-called rerun air, oh fair Rebel Prince? Hope all is well with you, by the way 🙂
Thanks, Stef, dahling. You’ll have to check your local listings. Our ABC affiliate in D.C. re-airs the previous week’s Oprah episodes at 1:05 am, so I’m hoping the Nate show will come on late next Monday night (technically Tuesday).
Well, I personally loved QEftSG. Yes, it relies entirely on stereotypes and yes its ideologically horrid, but its everything any show on TLC wants to be without lying about whether or not the instigators are gay. Instead of being ambiguous (*coughcoughVerncoughcough*), they took it and ran with it. I was totally hooking for the entire hour (well, except for the commercial breaks, with which I scampered back and forth from room-with-computer to room-with-TV). As Will put it so well when informing Barry about gay cinema, it’s horrible, but we’re obligated to watch it and love it, no questions asked.
Oh, did I mention that Jai Rodriguez was Angel in the production of RENT I saw? Fabulous, dahling.
However, I do think that BmB will be horrible, but I’ll probably watch it anyway, if for nothing more than hot man-on-man action somewhere other than IFC or Sundance. 🙂
“Queer Eye…” looks absolutely great. I’m even more excited to see it, thanks to your take on it, Stephen. 🙂
It looks like a show my brother could be on (as designer). Oh, I don’t think I told you (I wanted to talk to you about it, Jeffy): my older brother came out to me last week. I’m glad I didn’t frighten him with my reaction, heh.
check out nate’s honoree mention on the vox vodka website. Also according to the website:
“The VOX®/OUT Voices of Style and Design is a year-long series of events honoring highly accomplished gay individuals, selected by the editors of Out magazine, whose works have come to signify American style.”
